Team Fortress 2 Beta LAN - Sep 22nd at apartment 110

Postby Pebby on Tue Sep 11, 2007 2:12 pm

Read the news!

If you pre-order the HL2 Orange Box, you get to play the Team Fortress 2 Beta (cough demo cough) starting Sept 17th. I'm definitely pre-ordering this sucker. How about you guys? Also, if it turns out to be good, I think we should do a LAN with it! How does Saturday the 22nd or Friday the 28th sound to you guys?

Added by Greg: The LAN is this Saturday, September 22nd at Apartment 110. It starts as soon as the first person arrives. I'm sure I'll be playing it at least as early as 9, so come on by whenever.

That sounds awesomatastic. And fantabulous. But first, query: Can you preorder it through Steam so you don't have to wait those painful couple days while it is shipping (when the game actually comes out)? I mean, I don't need anything physical for TF2, Portal, and Episode 2, so how does that work?

Also, please please please tell me that you can play all the classes in the beta / demo.

The pre-order offer is only for ordering through Steam, in fact. So, yes!

Bah I say! BAH!

I am saying Bah to the fact that you have to buy the entire Orange Box, which means that you're paying for HL2 again. You can "gift" it to a friend though, but with so many people getting the Orange Box I have a feeling the ebay value of HL2 is going to be pretty low.

Oh well I'll get it anyway. Bastards.

I'm not sure about those weekends; I'll look in to it.

Even without HL2 + Ep1, you're still paying 45 dollars for Portal, TF2, and Ep2. I don't care too much about the latter, but I will happily shell out 45 bucks for the first two. (It's 50 dollars for just those two, separately, anyway)

So, it's a glass half full/empty thing. I'd argue that you're actually just getting another copy of HL2 and Ep1 for free with your 45 dollar game bundle.

Well, I also plan on playing through ep1 and ep2 eventually, and I don't have ep1 yet. So I suppose because it comes with ep1 it's a pretty darn good deal.

Yeah, Marie and I are totally in for the 22nd (We've already pre-ordered our Orange Boxes). Also I just got Enemy Territory: Quake Wars and it's pretty fun, anyone else tried this out? If it turns out to be 3/4ths as good at Enemy Territory was it would be an awesome LAN game.

P.S. - Look who replied without Greg pissing and moaning first..

Yay! Now to see if you actually show up! ;)

I played the Quake Wars beta, and I thought it was pretty good. It feels a lot like Wolf ET which is a very good thing. Unfortunately it requires Pixel Shader 3 so not everyone will be able to play it.

Unfortunately, I'm one of those poor chumps who can't play Quake Wars... stupid pixel shaders.

So Alec says he's good for the 22nd (not the 28th, presumably?)... is it on for that day?

Am I hosting?

If cats always land on their feet and buttered toast always lands on the buttered side, what happens if you strap buttered toast, butter side up, to the back of a cat?!

You can host or we can host. Whatev. I prefer me so I don't have to pack up but either way is good.

I'm pretty sure it would start spinning uncontrollably, each side trying to stay down, until it reaches terminal velocity, at which point it could be effectively used as the most powerful drill on earth. We could probably bore to the center of the earth with such a buttered cat perpetual motion drill.

You host this one, since my gig is the night before and I won't have much time to prep; I'll get the next one.

My JewDar tells me that a prebuilt computer that inexpensive must have something wrong with it.
