Have we ever successfully gotten Quake 1 running in any form, any time recently? If we do... man, I'm all over that. Also we can do THF if we have enough people.

I have. Not in the last few years, but it was in XP. There's an open source executable replacement called "glquake" that renders the game in opengl instead of software rendering; it looks way better and is completely compatible with anything that is Quake because it's the same engine.

I'll download the needed files and have it ready! As long as I'm doing that, are there any other Quake 1 mods that we really loved? I know there was the KQP (Killer Quake Pack) that was just a huge glob of small mods that made the game totally silly but fun...

I have GLQuake, a map pack, FvF, something called GLPro350, and something called batch_config. All in zip form. I saved them for this very event.

I say we take turns running random batch files. Sorta like a Russian Roulette.

I remember liking one version of Warcraft 3 we played that one time, but I don't remember which one it was.

Okay, since we have LAN parties on the SAME DAY, perhaps we can do a tournament between the two at some point in the evening?

I think we should take them up on this offer!

Terry said we can pick the game and time and offered choices of BF2/CoD2/CS:S.

You all know my feelings on CS especially when playing against veterans. I'm not a huge fan of BF2 but I would definitely play it for this case. I haven't played CoD2 but I remember CoD1 being a huge amount of fun at a previous LAN party.

Should I put up a vote to decide what game we want to do?

On an unrelated note, let's get more signups! Who do we know that hasn't seen the thread yet? Some people we're too lazy to even sign up for the email notification and normally I wouldn't bother, but this needs to be a big LAN!

IMO, I'd prefer we did BF2. I know I won't have CoD2. I wasn't happy with the game, and sold it. CS:S is an option, but since BF2 is the mainstay of the Fragster LAN, everyone there will have it.

I could try to get everone to install UT, but will they want to?

The Desert Conflict mod to BF2 is a kick too. You should check that out. I have a game server ready tp go for the event, and the Fragster LAN has an 8Mb SYNCHRONOUS internet connection, so supporting y'all from the outside is no problem.

I've only just been introduced to Humachi, and don't know that issuses it may bring to latency or bandwidth. If it's not a good solution to connecting our two LANs together, then I could run the gameserver on both an internal and external IP, and password protect it. A VPN sure would make life easy though.

If we end up doing BF2, I am never stepping foot in your helicopter!

My only concern about BF2 is not having enough players to form a team that can have any sort of strategy. We don't have a huge amount of signups yet.

Edit for DrDeath's reply above: Sounds like BF2 would be our best bet then. I think everyone will be cool with that. Do you guys run a "patches" server that allows us non-owners to join the game? If not I'll have to do some testing to see what it takes to allow that and get you the information.

Good to know. I'll figure out who does and does not own the game to see how many we'd need to buy.
