Yes, actually, that's a good point. I don't think the wild animals bother me much, but the barbarians making their own cities and making camps right next to my civilizations bothers me a lot. D:

I like animals a lot because they make scouting more dangerous and more fun (and requires a little strategy like staying in forests) and perhaps more importantly they make it so you must escort settlers with a military unit. Animals are not allowed to enter your borders so they never do any damage that way.

But I do agree that the "real" barbarians are poo poo heads.

I was verry interested in this idea when Greg told me all about it after the LAN, so I'm in.

I like barbarians only in the sence that they give your units XP, and that's great. I don't know about with this type of game... after reading all the posts I think it might be a bit too much of an interference I guess... I allways just used warriors as scouts and let the possiable 1 starting scout be the long range scouter. So the scout might die, but he's way the heck over there, so no biggie, and barbarians have almost no chance at killing a warrior 1on1 so then I get vetran warriors that I can upgrade later. =D
If you can find some mod or whatever that makes only wild animals, I'm all for it.

I vote for Water in the Middle as the map type.
I vote for tech trading, not just the BTS version, but that also.

Am I going to need to get BTS to play this pitboss game? I have Civ 4, but my private network got shut down (PM me) =\

I'm in. The only reason I went AWOL last time (again, apologies) was I moved and my CPU and Game disk were both buried in different, unpacked boxes.

I would love Animals, but no Barbarians (any chance there is a mod for that?)

I love the Inland Sea idea, it would make politics very interesting because you have intense contact with your two neighbor but you are free to use boats to move. Wars are very interesting in this map because you have to conquer linearly. So it is hard to sneak attack anyone.

I'm also all for BtS Tech trading as it makes for more politics.

Also, what happen if someone wants to create a Vassle by releasing a colony? is it CPU controlled (could we a assign a newcomer to it?)

I'm personally fine with inviting more people as long as they're friendly players but it's up to everyone; it's as much your guys' game as it is mine.

I have always liked the idea of "Friends, family, and their friends and family (and Derek)"

Tech trading really made our first game kinda weak sauce. If the game was really strictly strategic then I would love it. However, there isn't any strategy in 2 or 3 people saying "hey buddy I know in real life and talk to on a regular basis, let's trade all our techs and dominate".

Unfortunately it's not possible to have a game where everyone is really playing within the bounds of the game and not using outside relationships to influence alliances within the game.

It's best to minimize the negative effect that this element can have on the game and that is by not having tech trading.

I wasn't really thinking about that, but I guess people would do it.... it is really lame tho because it caps out the game. I would then suggest that we (since we DO all know eachother) don't play with that tactic, but if you feel we can't keep it out then fine.

I'm not going to be totally disapointed that we can't share techs..

:edit: caps = craps :but caps works too I guess:

I am waiting for the next patch to be released before we start this game. There are some BtS bugs that need to be resolved.

I also wanted to have Civstats 2.0 finished before we start, but now I'm really busy at work that might not happen.

My guess is it will be within the month. They say they're working on it.
